The consequence of touching the heart of another

Compassion

We are each a unique installment of humanity here on a mission; a mission to awaken and become aware of ourselves.

This awareness brings with it the inherent recognition that we are connected to all life around us. And that, leaves us with an infinite opportunity to serve. We are blessed each day with the opportunity to interact with our fellows - although many of us don't see it that way.

Daily, we get to be the conduit through which energy flows and affects a change in the world and lives around us. Whether we recognize it or not, that's a pretty sweet deal. Every person that crosses our path has their own story and their own history, but time and again it is one of limitation. Making decisions for the future based solely on previous experience keeps us bound to those experiences. We put our past in front of us and walk into the same familiar territory.

My teachers insisted that I was already whole and complete in and of myself.

But that made no sense to me. If I had any gifts, I was unconscious to them. If I was complete, I certainly didn’t feel that way. I was simply unable to look beyond the limited scope of vision my ego was providing me. All I could see was lack and inadequacy. And so I marched through life governed by that perspective. I lived reacting to the constant bombardment of scarcity and fear that is the playground of a world asleep.

We all know people who have lived like this and we have each been this person at one point or another.

So, what magnificent opportunities we are daily given to activate a loving kindness in each person with whom we come into contact. One of my teachers used to say, "We’re all God’s kids." Each one of us is an expression of Spirit - unique only in our individual personalities, but otherwise connected by a collective Consciousness.

In reaching out to those who we meet in our day with the genuine intent of concern and support, compassion is stirred in the face of struggle and quickened by the hand of love.

Compassion moves boldly and effortlessly in the name of service; not to rescue, but to empower, by unlocking the shackles of self. Compassion is neither sympathy nor pity. It is the honest desire to give freely of the love that has been freely given to us by Spirit. It is a genuine concern for the well-being of others.

Compassion inspires and awakens purpose in the soul. It enables us to hear our inner voice of intuition and imagination.

“If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.” - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

What greater gift could be bestowed upon any of us than to have the fire of purpose kindled in our soul?

This is the consequence of touching the heart of another, so we would do well to make every meeting this day a sacred interaction. What ecstasy to be an instrument in the transformation from someone’s darkness into light simply by letting them know you care. An awakening occurs within us when we forget ourselves in an honest attempt to connect with others.

We are fast-tracked to freedom when we open our hearts unconditionally to those in our presence.

Compassion occasions peace, that feeling of finding your way home at a weary journey’s end. It gives birth to bliss, the easy peace of knowing you are doing exactly as Spirit would have you do. Its benefits are experienced in both the giver and receiver as the separateness between them is dissolved and their common bond of humanity is recognized.

Nothing but good can come from the practice of compassion.

Today-

Give of yourself everything you would have given to you. Smile. Encourage. Recognize yourself in the struggle of your fellow. Preach without preaching and lay your gift of service at the alter of someone in need, with your only intention being one of helping them to awaken their own full expression of who they already are inside.

Just care, because.
